I thought it odd when my older co-worker revealed to me his straight-forward approach to Spider Solitaire. He just starts it up and plays the cards as dealt. He doesn't surf for a more ideal opening hand the way I do. This is an intelligent man... surely he must be aware that some initial setups are easier to work with than others? If the objective is to complete the game, why would anyone settle for less than optimal? Does he enjoy the challenge of working with the first set, even when alternatives are just a click away? He then informs me that he doesn't get hints for available moves. I realize that I'm dealing with a true masochist, and wonder how much work I can pass along before he implodes.
